Ollie Clifton
I've come to Qigong from a place of "good health" - from a western medical perspective that is. When my partner Vanessa developed bowel cancer at age 30 it was a big wake up call for us both in terms of re-defining "good health".
Initially I watched, amazed, as Vanessa slowly but surely rebuilt her health with Qigong, and was transformed from being a patient to being a teacher and healer. It took a while for the penny to drop for me - eventually I couldn't resist the opportunity to give it a go, and once I did the benefits have been so obvious it's been easy to continue. I feel calmer, some old habits and dysfunctional behaviour are gone, physical niggles and sports injuries have gradually disappeared, I'm a much more content and open person.
I've found the whole process of practising Qigong to be incredibly humbling - I've been practising actively since 2005, and I'm still constantly finding new opportunities to improve my own health, and my life generally. I love the way the Yuan Gong forms are both challenging and soothing - whatever life throws at me, there is always some element of my practice I can call on to get things back on track. In this sense Qigong and Ren Xue is more about gradually realising my potential as a human being. A work in progress :-)
I have been teaching since 2011 and have found this to be not only a great way to share what I've learnt with others, but to also learn and grow from others. It's a two-way process for me - like two sides of the same coin. I enjoy working with people one on one, or in groups, and also do customised sessions with specific groups as need arises.
